Pre-eminent African law firm, Bowmans, was named African Firm of the Year for the second consecutive year at the prestigious IFLR Africa Awards ceremony held in Cape Town, South Africa, last night (27 March). The firm also walked away with two other awards, including Impact Deal of the Year: M&A and Loans Deal of the Year.
The IFLR Awards are based solely on legal innovation and are decided following detailed research using a variety of sources, including interviews with private practice lawyers, in-house counsel and corporate finance professionals.
Bowmans’ chairman and senior partner, Ezra Davids, says, ‘We are proud to be recognised by IFLR as a world-class law firm with an extensive African footprint. We believe that the combination of this local presence and our one-firm approach offers a compelling value proposition to both our clients and our people.’
The firm won the Impact Deal of the Year: M&A for advising on the Universal Music Group/ Mavin Global transaction and the Loans Deal of the Year for advising on a cross-boundary energy financing matter.
Bowmans has received numerous awards for its excellent work on the continent in the last year. Last month, the firm won several of the top Chambers Africa Awards, including the awards for Kenya Full-Service Law Firm of the Year: Transactional, South Africa Full-Service Law Firm of the Year: Transactional and Tanzania Law Firm of the Year.
Davids concludes, ‘We are grateful to our clients for entrusting us with their largest and most complex transactions and disputes, and to the IFLR team for acknowledging us in this way.’
