Pre-eminent African law firm, Bowmans, has announced seven partner promotions with effect from 1 March 2025.
The promotions span several of the firm’s key practice areas, including Corporate/ M&A, Employment and Benefits, Litigation and Tax across three jurisdictions – Kenya, South Africa and Tanzania.
Bowmans’ new partners include:
Alfred Deya (Nairobi, Litigation Practice): Deya is a disputes lawyer specialising in employment, environmental and land, commercial, intellectual property and constitutional law matters. He has an LLB from Moi University, a Postgraduate Diploma from the Kenya School of Law and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Corporate Governance at the University of Nairobi.
Angela da Costa-Naidoo (Johannesburg, M&A Practice): da Costa-Naidoo has experience in a broad range of corporate and commercial transactions including mergers and acquisitions, black economic empowerment transactions, and shareholder and joint venture arrangements. She has an LLB and certificates in Advanced Company Law from the University of the Witwatersrand.
James Pius (Dar es Salaam, Corporate Department): Pius specialises in corporate and commercial law with a particular focus on cross-border mergers and acquisitions and mining matters. He has an LLB (Hons) from the University of Dar es Salaam as well as a Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law School of Tanzania.
Norma Mazibuko (Johannesburg, Employment and Benefits Practice): Mazibuko is a master reward specialist with extensive experience advising on total reward strategies, remuneration governance, reward philosophy and strategy design. She has BCom and BCom (Hons) degrees from the University of Johannesburg, an MCom from Northwest University and is currently studying towards an MBA at the University of Reading-Henley Business School.
Phuti Kgomo (Johannesburg, Tax Practice): Kgomo specialises in corporate/ mergers and acquisitions tax advisory. His experience extends to company reorganisations, broad-based black economic transactions, debt restructures, share incentive schemes and independent power producer arrangements. He has BCom (Accounting) and BCom (Hons) (Taxation) degrees.
Samuel Githanda (Nairobi, Tax Practice): Githanda specialises in all aspects of tax law including corporate income tax, personal income tax, transfer pricing and indirect taxes including custom duties and transfer pricing. He has an LLB from the University of Nairobi and a Postgraduate Diploma from the Kenya School of Law.
Shmuel Moch (Johannesburg, M&A Practice): Moch specialises in mergers and acquisitions and corporate and commercial matters. His experience covers a range of sectors including mining, finance, property, logistics, energy, and healthcare and pharmaceuticals. He has BCom (Law) and LLB degrees from the University of the Witwatersrand.
