South Africa’s long mining history has left a complex legacy of tailings storage facilities and disturbed land, making responsible tailings management and effective land rehabilitation increasingly important for environmental protection, public health and sustainable economic development.

Against this backdrop, Creamer Media will host a webinar (register here) on April 8 at 14:00 exploring innovations in tailings management and the growing importance of responsible land rehabilitation in South Africa’s mining sector. The online event will bring together industry experts to discuss how tailings retreatment projects are contributing to economic growth while helping to address environmental and legacy mining challenges.

The discussion will examine the extent to which retreatment initiatives are creating new economic opportunities, while also strengthening safety, risk management and long-term stewardship of tailings facilities and rehabilitated land. Panellists will also consider the regulatory, financial, technical and social barriers that may be slowing rehabilitation efforts across the country.

In addition, the webinar will highlight how effective land rehabilitation can improve environmental quality, protect public health and enhance socioeconomic conditions for communities located near historic and active mining operations. The conversation will also explore the indicators used to measure successful rehabilitation outcomes linked to tailings activities.

Stakeholders across the mining, environmental and regulatory sectors are encouraged to register and join the discussion.
