Webber Wentzel, in association with BLC Robert & Associates (Mauritius), Aluko & Oyebode (Nigeria), Breakthrough Attorneys (Tanzania), and ALN MMAKS Advocates (Uganda), has launched a new guide exploring international arbitration trends across Africa.
The publication offers practical insights into developments in international arbitration across key African jurisdictions and highlights the growing importance of international arbitration and other alternative dispute resolution (ADR) mechanisms in resolving complex commercial disputes.
Contributors provide both jurisdiction-specific analysis and a broader view of the evolving arbitration landscape across Africa.
There are clear advantages to resolving disputes through ADR rather than traditional court processes, including reduced costs, greater flexibility, confidentiality, faster resolution and choice of arbitrator/mediator. Arbitration and mediation remain the most common forms of ADR and are increasingly being adopted to resolve high-stakes matters, whether outside or alongside litigation.
Webber Wentzel’s Dispute Resolution team has a strong track record advising clients in arbitration, mediation and hybrid dispute resolution processes. The firm has acted in numerous commercial, domestic and international arbitrations and investment treaty disputes, particularly across Africa.
“Our goal is to equip clients and stakeholders with current, strategic insights that support effective decision-making and build confidence in dispute resolution in African jurisdictions,” says Erin Warmington, a Partner in Webber Wentzel’s Dispute Resolution team.
The launch of this guide reflects the firm’s longstanding commitment to promoting international arbitration and other ADR processes as appropriate methods for resolving commercial disputes across the continent. Webber Wentzel supports clients at every stage of the dispute process – from drafting arbitration clauses and managing risks during project execution to prosecuting or defending claims and enforcing decisions and awards.
This guide is part of Webber Wentzel’s broader contribution to strengthening Africa’s reputation as a credible and leading region for international arbitration.
