A R37 million Department of Transport and Public Works roadworks project on the R43 between Bot River and Sandbaai is nearing completion. The contractor began work in September 2015 and is scheduled to finish by end of May 2016, provided that there are no delays caused by bad weather or unforeseen events.

Stop/ go operations will be in place during the day for asphalting at the Hawston, Fisherhaven, Karwyderskraal and Bot River intersections until 22 April 2016. Rumble strips are being installed at the Bot River intersection to reduce the risk of crashes. Line marking has commenced and will be completed within about four weeks. Closures will be in place for short periods to allow roadmarking paint to dry.

Road signs are due to be installed during the first two weeks of May. Reflective road studs will be installed, chipping stones removed, and the road reserve cleaned during May. Fencing and fence repairs will continue until the end of the contract period.

The contractor is insured for damages to vehicles caused by construction-related incidents. Insurance claims with adequate proof and motivation can be emailed to: ludwig@road-mac.co.za

The Department thanks motorists for their patience during construction. We are aware that delays are frustrating, but some delays are inevitable. The Department designs and manages roadworks in such a way that inconvenience to road users is minimised at all times.
