With over 30 years of experience in the public sector, Julinda Gantana has been appointed Western Cape Provincial Treasury head, the first female to lead in the position.

Provincial Minister of Finance and Economic Opportunities Mireille Wenger said in the current financial climate, Gantana’s experience was crucial.

“She has a clear passion for ensuring that every cent of public money is responsibly spent for maximum benefit of every resident of this province,” Wenger said.

Gantana wants the Western Cape treasury to lead budget reform in a decentralised fiscal system and adopt an integrated and coordinated approach to service delivery.

“We need to be working towards greater fiscal autonomy with the citizen at the very centre, underpinned by evidence-based decision-making,” she said.

Wenger said she was confident in Gantana’s passion and vision for a more prosperous province.

“…with the focus remaining on responsible fiscal management and forward planning, now more than ever we need the best people in our province and government, like Ms Gantana, to help unlock the full potential of the economy to expand and create thousands of jobs. I look forward to working together toward that goal,” Wenger added.
