Oxfam in Ethiopia is addressing urgent humanitarian s in multiple areas, while tackling the root causes of poverty by helping people make a decent living and adapt to and survive climate change. We also work to empower women and girls in all our programs and ensure women can advocate for their rights and participate in making policies that affect their lives.
For over sixty years, Oxfam in Ethiopia has contributed to the country’s humanitarian, development, and advocacy efforts. While its programme remains modest in scale, the organization has supported responses to some of Ethiopia’s significant challenges, including the droughts of 2009, 2011, 2016, and 2017–18, the ongoing response to South Sudanese refugees since 2014, and the conflict in Northern Ethiopia in 2021.
