TASTIC Rice and fashion designer David Tlale hosted an exclusive launch event at Gallery Momo in Parkhurst, to launch their collaboration in honour of Heritage Month.

Inspired by his childhood, as well as the rich and vibrant mix of cultures found in South Africa, David has created an exclusive pack design that will be found on TASTIC packaging from the beginning of September. “In creating the pack, I was inspired by the colours and textures of the women I grew up around, iconic South African buildings as well as the DNA of the House of David Tlale, which is all about structure, texture and drama.”

The theme of the campaign as well as the night was “My Heritage” and guests were invited to dress accordingly. The event highlighted the relationship between fashion, food and heritage through a uniquely South African lens. With a menu curated by Chef Nti, guests were treated to a menu of TASTIC Rice dishes inspired by Nti’s own heritage and childhood.

“I drew my inspiration for the menu from the memories of all my favourite foods growing up, such as mogudu and all my favourite 7 colour dishes,” she shared.

Guests in attendance included TV personality and choreographer Somizi Mhlongo, actress Tsholo Matshaba, singer Brenda Mntambo, model Blue Mbombo and influencer Tshepi Vundla. Entertainment was provided by Vusi Nova, which rounded up the uniquely South African celebration.

“TASTIC’s collaboration with David Tlale is important in the context of South Africa as it shows that we can celebrate our differences, as well as what unifies us” says Thembi Sehloho, Marketing Director for Rice and Pasta at Tiger Brands South Africa.

“The pack design beautifully depicts the life of an everyday South African and celebrates the character, texture and colours that make us who we are” adds Sehloho.

The TASTIC limited edition pack will be available in stores nationwide, from 1 September 2019.
