Over the past three days, we have extensively toured the Central Karoo, conducting oversight visits to vital government units and assessing the ongoing efforts in the region. This approach has provided a strong foundation for Premier Alan Winde to confidently address the current state of the province, and we are indeed ready to step up.

Under the DA-led administration, a strategic initiative has been launched to visit each district municipality, ensuring a thorough evaluation of real progress ahead of the annual provincial Parliament opening. This proactive approach not only highlights the administration’s accountability but also positions the Premier to lead from the front.

We applaud the Premier’s commitment to unlocking opportunities for sustainable economic growth, which is vital for the well being of all those residing in the province.

While unemployment remains a critical issue, the DA has made significant strides in addressing these challenges. The Western Cape saw 62 000 jobs created last quarter, alongside efforts that have led to the highest employment absorption and labor participation rates compared to the rest of country.

At the core of the DA-led government’s agenda is innovation, empowerment, and creating the conditions for residents to thrive.

We also commend the Premier’s leadership in embracing new technologies within the renewable energy sector and streamlining processes at the Port of Cape Town under the Government of National Unity. This effort is expected to contribute to getting our national economic growth rate to 3%.

The DA is continuously finding new ways to enhance service delivery through new funding models and care programmes that ensure taxpayer money is spent effectively. This forward-thinking approach is vital for driving long-term economic growth and improving the quality of life for residents across the province.

In contrast, the statement issued by the ANC's Deputy Chief Whip fails to reflect their active participation as members of the provincial parliament. Instead, it serves as an unfounded attack on the DA-led government's performance over the past six years.

The ANC had 30 years to improve the state of the nation but instead left us with significant challenges, as we now face the uncertainty of an upcoming budget that could either strengthen or severely harm our country and province.

Nevertheless, as the DA, we fully support the Premier’s address and the boundless opportunities it presents for the residents of this province. We remain steadfast in our oversight role to ensure that the Premier’s priorities are implemented effectively, delivering meaningful results for all.

Issued by Gillion Bosman, MPP - DA Chief Whip in Western Cape Provincial Parliament
