The Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) has thanked City of Johannesburg Mayor Herman Mashaba for his service following his resignation on Monday.

The IFP said as part of the Cooperation Government in the City of Johannesburg with the Democratic Alliance (DA), it took note of the governance matters relayed by Mashaba and would study them before making a statement.

The party would not be drawn to comment on the DA’s internal matters and said the reasons for Mashaba’s resignation are largely anchored in DA politics which are, therefore, not matters for the IFP.

“The Cooperation Government has not been without its challenges, but importantly most often than not we have been able to agree on the best possible solutions for the People we serve. The disagreements have strengthened our cooperation,” said the IFP.

The party called for uninterrupted service delivery leading up to November 27, Mashaba’s last day as Mayor, and wished him well in his future endeavours.
