Senegal's government underestimated financial situation, Court of Auditors says

Senegal's previous government underestimated several key aspects of the West African country's financial situation including debt and budget deficit, the Court of Auditors said in a long-awaited report on Wednesday.

An audit, ordered by newly elected President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, has previously revealed that Senegal's debt and budget deficit were much wider than the previous administration had reported.

The Court of Auditors said in the report which covers public finances from 2019 to March 2024, detected anomalies and data discrepancies between what the previous government reported, and its review.
