The Chairperson of the Select Committee on Security and Justice, Ms Jane Mananiso, has commend the South African Police Service (SAPS) for conducting a successful National Policing Summit this week.
Speaking after the three-day summit, which was held under the theme “Efficiency in Action: Optimising South Africa’s Policing Potential”, Ms Mananiso said, “We trust that these engagements that were held will assist in guiding the country’s efforts to fight crime effectively. We look forward to the SAPS implementing all plans they agreed at the summit.”
Ms Mananiso said the committee further noted this week’s unveiling of new drone and body-worn camera technology to be rolled out by the Border Management Authority (BMA). The Minister of Home Affairs this week announced that four advanced unmanned aerial vehicles (commonly known as drones) and 40 body-worn cameras will be deployed for the first time over the Easter weekend.
“We note these technologies are state of the art and are an attempt to better police South Africa’s porous borders. Our country’s borders are vast and extremely difficult to patrol. Any technology that will assist the limited workforce that our country has must be welcomed and commended,” emphasised Ms Mananiso.
