SALGA North West convenes members to map a way towards stable municipal governance and effective and efficient local government

The South African Local Government Association (SALGA) North West, representing all the municipalities in the Province, will convene a two-day Annual Provincial Members Assembly (PMA) on 01 -02 August 2023 in Vryburg under the theme “Credible municipal demarcation processes geared towards stable municipal governance and an effective and efficient local government post 2024”. 

Clause 15.2 of the Constitution of the SALGA requires provincial offices to convene a PMA at least once a year. This meeting must be held at least 30 (thirty) days before the National Members Assembly.

The 2023 PMA details are as follows:

Date: 01-02 August 2023

Venue: Klondike Lodge, Vryburg.

Time: 09h00

Registration: 31 July 2023, Klondike Lodge Vryburg, 16H00-19H00

The aim of the PMA as cited in SALGA’s Constitution are to: 

Act in accordance with the directions of the previous (2022) Provincial Members’ Assembly; 

Adopt the SALGA’s programme of action, business plan and budget for the ensuing year

Review SALGA’s financial performance and reports from oversight bodies; 

Additionally, the 2023 PMA will;

Robustly and decisively deal with challenges, burning issues of North West municipalities including possible solutions and hands-on support. 

To recognise improvements and excellence within North West municipalities.

The PMA will be led by Cllr Khumalo Molefe, the Provincial Chairperson of SALGA North West and the Provincial Executive Committee (PEC). The expected number of delegates is 200, made up of the Deputy Minister of Cooperative Governance & Traditional Affairs, Honorable Parks Tau; members of the SALGA National and Provincial Executive committees; newly appointed SALGA CEO – Sithole Mbanga and the executive management team; political and administrative leadership of the 22 North West municipalities; MECs and heads of provincial government departments and members of the North West Provincial Legislature. Stakeholders from state entities such as the Auditor-General of South Africa and Municipal Demarcation Board, and the private sector will also attend the 2023 PMA. 

All members of the media are invited to the PMA and to participate in relevant activities of the PMA.
