As the South African Communist Party (SACP) and the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), we held a bilateral meeting in Parktown, Johannesburg, on Monday, 2 March 2026.

The SACP delegation, as led by our General Secretary Comrade Solly Mapaila, and the EFF delegation, as led by its President Comrade Julius Malema, discussed matters of mutual interest. The bilateral meeting reflected on the present political and economic situation both domestically and internationally.

Central to the bilateral meeting was the discussion of the upcoming Conference of the Left, organised through the auspices of the SACP and collectively coordinated by a standing committee comprising all participating organisations, with the EFF being a key member. As the two organisations, we agreed on setting up a working task team composed of comrades from both our organisations with the view to work out the details of our cooperation in the medium term and crafting pillar items of the agenda of the Conference of the Left in line with the discussions of the bilateral meetings and earlier engagements.

Departing from a shared overarching critique of the global capitalist system with its domestic manifestations, in both historical and contemporary context, the bilateral meeting affirmed an ongoing cooperation rooted in anti-capitalist values and national transformation objectives.

As the SACP, we maintain our commitment to building a popular left front to deepen the working-class struggle against capitalist oppression and laying the foundation for socialism. The common effort between the SACP and the EFF finds expression in the context of this commitment as determined by our structures. We continue to call on all progressives to work together as we move towards the Conference of the Left.
