The South African Communist Party (SACP) said on Monday that the targeting of high-ranking government officials violates all rules of international norms on warfare, as it condemned the killing of Iranian second supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Khamenei was killed on Saturday during a joint military operation by the US and Israel targeting his office compound in Tehran.
The SACP condemned his killing, describing it as a “murderous act” and said it was an indication of the “immorality” of the Israeli and US governments.
“The murderous acts of the regimes of apartheid Israel and the US towards Iran reflect regimes with no restraint and imperialist agenda with no limits,” said the party.
The SACP said “anti-imperialist forces” in South Africa and across the world must “resist imperialist aggression against Iran and Palestine”.
