Sabinet, in proud partnership with the Library and Information Association of South Africa (LIASA), is pleased to announce the awarding of the LIASA-Sabinet Presidential Conference Grants to four deserving members.
This initiative marks a fresh chapter in Sabinet’s long-standing support for LIASA and its members, reinforcing our shared commitment to empowering library and information professionals across the country.
“The introduction of the Presidential Conference Grants highlights a new way of ensuring inclusivity and access, while reinforcing the vital role of the annual conference in professional growth. Through this sponsorship, Sabinet reaffirms its dedication to advancing library and information services in South Africa — and to empowering professionals with the knowledge, networks, and inspiration needed to shape the future of the sector,” says Sabinet Managing Director, Ros Hattingh.
Opening doors to the LIASA Annual Conference
Instead of sponsoring the traditional award category this year, Sabinet invested directly in opportunities for professional development and participation at the LIASA Annual Conference 2025.
Through the LIASA-Sabinet Presidential Conference Grants, three out-of-town delegates received support covering accommodation and registration fees, while one local delegate was awarded a grant covering registration.
The 2025 grant recipients
The four LIASA-Sabinet Presidential Grant recipients are:
Maphefo Maake, Manager Learning and Information Services, Northwest University,
Nqobile Shabalala, Librarian, New Garankuwa Public Library,
Hlayisani Khetiwa, Assistant Information Specialist, IIE Varsity College, Waterfall Campus, and
Oluwayemi Odularu, Senior Lecturer in Library and Information Science, Walter Sisulu University
By lowering financial barriers to participation, the grants ensure that more voices, perspectives, and talents are represented at South Africa’s leading library and information services event.
Sabinet has proudly partnered with LIASA for many years, championing initiatives that strengthen the profession and support its people. The Presidential Conference Grants reflect a continued commitment to building and supporting the LIS community in South Africa.
The LIASA Annual Conference 2025 takes place from 30 September to 3 October 2025 at the Boardwalk Hotel, Gqeberha, under the theme: “Libraries as Innovation Hubs: Empowering Communities.”
See you in Gqeberha!
