A joint meeting of the Standing Committee on Public Accounts (Scopa) and the Portfolio Committee on Social Development today resolved to call the Minister of Social Development, Ms Bathabile Dlamini, the Minister of Telecommunications and Postal Services, Mr Siyabonga Cwele and National Treasury next week Tuesday, 31 October 2017, to get assurance from the political leadership of the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) and the South African Post Office (Sapo) that there is consensus in meeting the deadline of ensuring that by 01 April 2018 the Post Office will be responsible for the administering social security grants.

The Committee is disappointed with the lack of answers from SASSA officials particularly when it comes to the Agency’s progress in complying with the Constitutional Court resolutions on the Cash Paymaster Services contract.

The Committee hopes that answers to all the questions that could not be answered today by the officials will be provided when the Ministers meet with the Committee.
