The Office of the Deputy President wishes to correct several media reports relating to events marking the fifth anniversary of the tragedy at Marikana.
Reports to the effect that Deputy President Ramaphosa has indicated his intention to visit Marikana on the anniversary are incorrect.
Deputy President Ramaphosa is committed to be part of the initiative proposed by Ms Winnie Madikizela-Mandela.
The feelings and wishes of the Marikana community and the families of the victims are of paramount importance in this sensitive process.
