The City of Cape Town’s Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) within the Public Empowerment Department has recently become aware of reports that individuals are collecting money from residents to allegedly register on the City’s Jobseekers Database. We wish to remind the public that registering on the Jobseekers Database, as well as receiving any related EPWP work opportunities from the City, is entirely free. No payment is required at any stage of the process. Read more below:

The City’s EPWP Department has recently received information that there are individuals charging residents R5 to receive a Jobseekers Database Registration form and R2 for proof of address in the area of Imizamo Yethu (Hout Bay).

Residents are requested to report any suspicious behaviour to the City's Fraud Hotline on 0800 323 130.

How to register for EPWP job opportunities

If you would like to be considered for EPWP work opportunities, the only way to do this is to register on the Jobseekers Database at your local sub-council office.

Please bring a copy of your CV, your ID or a valid South African work permit. EPWP beneficiaries are randomly selected from this database.

‘Please residents, don’t get exploited by opportunists. The City does not charge residents a cent for registering or receiving EPWP short-term work opportunities.

‘To opportunists soliciting money from individuals seeking job opportunities, this is a criminal offence!

‘If you are asked to pay for access to work opportunities or to register on the City’s Jobseekers Database, please report the matter immediately to the authorities for investigation,’ said Alderman Grant Twigg, the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Waste Management.

For more information, contact the EPWP HelpDesk on 021 400 9406 or email epwp.help@capetown.gov.za (07:30 until 15:30).
