Marking Africa Day under the theme, Bringing the Law into the Digital Age, the virtual LexisNexis Rule of Law Café at 10h00 on Tuesday, 25 May will deliver insights from expert speakers discussing the role of the rule of law as a basic condition for economic development on the continent.

Globally, this year’s Africa Day celebrations will be celebrated under the theme: Silencing the Guns - Creating Conducive Conditions for Africa's Development and Intensifying the Fight against the COVID-19 Pandemic.
The Rule of Law Café will in turn shine the spotlight on the continent’s efforts to forge ahead with digital transformation and modernisation of the law and legal processes, as a means of advancing development.
The session is the third Rule of Law Café to be hosted by LexisNexis since the concept was introduced here last year in partnership with global parent company, RELX. These sessions bring together industry advocates for business and equality, to discuss issues around access to the Rule of Law.

Videsha Proothveerajh is an accomplished businesswoman with numerous accolades including being named the most influential Woman in Business and Government for ICT in Africa; a Forbes change maker in Africa, and one of the 50 most inspiring women in South Africa. She is passionate about LexisNexis South Africa’s purpose of Advancing the Rule of Law in order to create meaningful impact across the African continent.
Bernard Oundo is the current President of the East Africa Law Society (EALS). He is a Senior Partner with Citadel Advocates, Uganda, and is a specialist at project finance and Public Private Partnership (PPP). Mentorship is an issue close to his heart and he is passionate about education as being the most vital tool for empowering and equipping the next generation of young people and leaders. He views leadership and capacity building within the legal profession as central for the advancement of Africa’s development.
Brendan Hughes is an attorney and the Chairperson of the Law Society of South Africa’s Electronic Law Committee as well as a Director of a legal technology group developing solutions for the legal services industry.
Nozipho Mvulane is an admitted attorney with a demonstrated history of working in the information and legal services industry. She has experience in both the legal and corporate sector. She is a Partner at Rajaram Mvulane Attorneys, which is a Durban based firm that prides itself on being a professional, confident and strong women empowered firm.
James Leach is the Chief Learning Officer at Africa Legal, which connects legal professionals across the African continent through a robust platform that provides accessible industry news and insights, jobs and professional development courses. With previous lecturing experience at UCT, James is passionate about developing and facilitating learning that is impactful and accessible, explicitly designed to address contemporary pan-African needs within the legal profession.
