President Cyril Ramaphosa’s accusations that AfriForum and Solidarity “spawned division” with their visit to the US and representatives of president Donald Trump’s administration are ironic because, according to AfriForum, it is rather Ramaphosa and the leaders of the ANC who are causing division. This is the reaction of AfriForum’s CEO, Kallie Kriel, from the US to statements that Ramaphosa made earlier today during an education summit in Gauteng.
According to Kriel Ramaphosa and the leaders of the ANC must accept responsibility for the division they are sowing. “It is Ramaphosa who signed the anti-Afrikaans Bela Act – an act that threatens the cultural existence of Afrikaans-speaking cultural communities. It is also Ramaphosa who signed the Expropriation Act. It is he who refuses to condemn slogans such as ‘Kill the Boer’ and it is the same president who denies the existence of farm murders,” explains Kriel in a reaction video.
Kriel also points out letters that AfriForum, Solidarity and the Solidarity Movement sent to the President about the Bela Act, the Expropriation Act and the current tension with the US, but these letters were simply ignored. Meanwhile, Ramaphosa’s spokesperson also claims that the President refuses to enter into discussions with these organisations. Kriel labels this action and Ramaphosa’s U-turn on the Bela negotiations at Nedlac as contemptuous.
“We will not be deterred. We will simply continue to fight for the interests of the country, and we will also fight unashamedly for the interests of Afrikaners. These statements only motivate us more to get our message out loud and clear,” emphasises Kriel.
“We are not going to be silenced by the so-called ‘cancel culture’ and we look forward to the future,” concludes Kriel.
The Solidarity Movement’s delegation in the US is led by Flip Buys, Chairperson of the Solidarity Movement. He is accompanied by Kriel, Dr. Dirk Hermann, Executive Head of Solidarity, and Jaco Kleynhans, Head of International Liaison at the Solidarity Movement. The delegation continues its discussions with opinion leaders in Washington, DC today.
