The South African Presidency said on Monday that Russian President Vladimir Putin had expressed satisfaction with his talks with US President Donald Trump and the “emerging alignment” on the peace process.
Putin briefed President Cyril Ramaphosa on the outcome of his meeting with Trump, that was recently held in Anchorage, Alaska in the US.
Ramaphosa expressed appreciation for the briefing from Putin, underscoring the need for more compromise on key issues for peace between Russia and Ukraine, following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
In Monday’s briefing, Ramaphosa and Putin once again pledged to maintain open lines of communication and to continue cooperation on issues of bilateral interests.
Putin has expressed his “recognition and appreciation” for South Africa's involvement in advancing a peace process between Russia and Ukraine.
