Petrol 93 and petrol 95 will decrease by 5c a litre for June, while diesel prices (0.05% and 0.005% sulphur) will decrease by 36.9c a litre, the Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources has announced.

The decreases are the result of a lower crude oil price and a stronger rand against the dollar.

Meanwhile, with regard to the slate levy, the cumulative slate amounted to a positive balance of R4.49-billion for petrol and diesel at the end of April.

In line with the provisions of the Self Adjusting Slate Levy Mechanism, a slate levy remains unchanged at 0c a litre in the price structures of petrol and diesel with effect from June 4.

Further, Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana announced in May that the fuel levy would increase by 16c a litre on petrol and 15c a litre on diesel, respectively, with effect from June 4.

Therefore, the fuel levy in the price structures of petrol and diesel will increase to R4.15 a litre and R4.02 a litre, respectively, while the Road Accident Fund levy remain unchanged at R2.18 a litre on the price structures of petrol and diesel.

The department also points out that Mineral and Petroleum Resources Minister Gwede Mantashe had approved revised transport tariffs in certain Magisterial District Zones (MDZs) emanating from the National Energy Regulator of South Africa updated pipeline tariff that utilise Klerksdorp as a supply point.

This has affected the four MDZs, which are 9C, 10C, 11A and 11C. In line with the Ministerial approval, the transport tariffs adjustments that are applicable to petrol and diesel price structures will have an increase of between 0.1c a litre to 2.6c a litre.
