The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) has noted the appointment the of Johnny Dladla as Acting Group Chief Executive of Eskom with immediate effect.

The NUM is extremely worried about the lack of consultation when it comes to the appointment of key positions at the power utility.

"The lack of consultation with key stakeholders, on the appointment of the acting group CEO in particular and the board, in general, will lead to chaotic management of the ESKOM. The NUM has a vested interest, with the intention of influence who gets the appointment.

We want leadership that is accountable to the country, capable of stabilizing the utility as well as recognition of workers input towards generation, transmitting and distributing electricity to our people," said Paris Mashego, NUM Energy Sector Coordinator.

We call upon the Minister Lynne Brown Brown to consult with the NUM on all plans to effect changes in the management of ESKOM.
