This is the first stakeholder meeting the Minister will have in Giyani, following his announcement of the plans to set up a university campus in Giyani during his National Council of Provinces (NCOP) Budget Vote Speech in June this year.

Following the feasibility studies, the facilities of the former Giyani College of Education have been confirmed for renovations and will be attached to the Tshwane University of Technology for the establishment of a University Campus. The facilities have not been used for educational purposes since the College’s closure in 2003.

The Giyani Campus presents a unique opportunity for our government to take education, science, and technology to the rural South Africa. It also presents an opportunity for Tshwane University of Technology to expand its reach and offerings, to the benefit of the people in Giyani and surrounding places, and in particular, the youth.

After the meeting with stakeholders, the Minister will do a site visit at the former Giyani College of Education.
