As the criminal investigation into Minister in the Presidency, Khumbudzo Ntshavheni, intensifies, the DA again calls for President Ramaphosa to fire her from Cabinet.

The fact that President Ramaphosa has dilly-dallied for so long on this most serious matter of a corruption accused and investigated Mininster in his Cabinet, underscores how urgent it is that Parliament have a Portfolio Committee overseeing the Presidency. The DA will purse the establishment of this committee as soon as possible.

The Rules Committee of Parliament decided last year on a Committee to oversee the Presidency, as part of implementing and doing justice to the recommendations by the Zondo Commission. A vote on this issue, for Parliament to vote it into being, will ensure such matters in the Presidency are not left without oversight.

Over a month ago revelations emerged about the Minister in the Presidency and her murky R2.5 million dealings when she was a municipal manager at the Ba-Phalaborwa Local Municipality in Limpopo.

Today that inquiry has been expanded and that figure has soared to a R80 million Fraud and Corruption investigation by the Hawks.

She has said and done nothing publicly to clear her name and based on her refusal to bring the public into her confidence, and the seriousness of the accusations, she must go.

Mininster Ntshavheni has full access into the most secret of secret dealings of the State Security Agency for so long as she stays in office.

Having written to the President calling on him to fire her weeks ago, all that has emerged in reply is an acknowledgment of receipt.

We are concerned that President Ramaphosa is well known to be very close to this Minister – who serves as the Cabinet Spokesperson.

The DA will continue to hold accountable all who compromise the people of South Africa with their corrupt and selfish ways.
