Russia's military aggression continues against Ukraine, its cities, infrastructure, civilians and their homes. The hostilities have led to a blockade of seaports, the destruction of onshore infrastructure and, as a result, have impacted the capacity utilisation of Metinvest’s production facilities.

Metinvest Group, having invoked force majeure, considers it necessary to provide regular reports on the situation at its assets in Ukraine.

On the first day of the war, 24 February, Metinvest announced that some of the equipment at its Mariupol-based enterprises, Ilyich Steel and Azovstal, had been placed in hot conservation mode. This decision was taken to ensure the safety of employees and to protect the equipment. Today it was decided to extend the hot conservation mode for another week. At Ilyich Steel and Azovstal in Mariupol, employees continue to work to ensure the essential function of the equipment and make sure there are no accidents.

A portion of the equipment at Zaporizhstal, Zaporizhia Coke and Zaporizhia Casting and Mechanical Plant has also been in hot conservation mode since 4 March. Starting 5 March, production processes have also been stopped in all of the shops of the Zaporizhvogneupor plant, in the city of Zaporizhia.

Kamet Steel (Kamianske) has been operating in a normal mode. Metinvest Pokrovske Coal has been operating with a slightly reduced workload. Nevertheless, on 28 February, the facility produced its first million tonnes of coal since the beginning of 2022.

Metinvest's mining enterprises in Kryvyi Rih, Northern, Central, and Ingulets GOKs, continue operating and shipping finished products. In particular, Northern GOK is producing and shipping pellets and Ingulets GOK is making iron ore concentrate. Central GOK is producing and shipping concentrate and pellets. At the same time, the capacity utilisation at the plants is slightly lower at the present time.

Avdiivka Coke has put some of its production capacity into conservation mode. Due to the hostilities, the plant has  suspended operations at Coke Shops #2, #3 and #4, as well as the second chemical wing (coal preparation and recovery). At present, some employees continue to work around the clock. Technical experts are also working in shifts to ensure the preservation of the mothballed equipment.

Apart from news on the Metinvest Group official website, you can also get daily updates about the company’s facilities and the current situation in Ukraine from a special news report on the Metinvest Media portal.
