Today, 18 July 2022, as the world commemorates Mandela Day, the DA in the Eastern Cape celebrated the life of Nelson Mandela in all corners of the province by giving back to its people.

On Madiba’s birthday we reflect on and appreciate the 67 years the former president spent fighting for justice and equality in South Africa.

I was joined by PE Northern Areas Constituency Leader, Yusuf Cassim, MPL, DA NMB Caucus Leader, Cllr Rano Kayser, DA Youth Interim Federal Leader, Cllr Nicholas Nyati, and DA Women’s Network EC Provincial Chairperson, Nomvano Zibonda, MPL, during a clean-up campaign at an illegal dumpsite in Link Road, in Helenvale in Nelson Mandela Bay.

Our activists and community members also came out in great numbers to give of their time in the service of their community. (see pictures here, here, here and here)

Helenvale is a prime example of how filthy our city has become under the ANC-led coalition government. Because they do nothing, the DA organised an excavator and truck and we removed two truckloads of rubbish. We cannot wait for this government while the government is broken. We roll up our sleeves and do it ourselves.

The streets of our city are overflowing with rubbish, and this creates a health and safety hazard for our residents, and especially our children.

This is not the vision that Nelson Mandela had for South Africa. The city bearing Madiba’s name is in total disarray and on the verge of collapse under an incompetent ANC government.

We must remove the ANC from power, and we will finally bring good governance and prosperity back to Nelson Mandela Bay.

The DA will never stop fighting for the people of the Eastern Cape.

Issued by Nqaba Bhanga, MPL - DA EC Provincial Leader
