The crime statistics for the first two quarters of the current financial year are set to be released on Friday, according to the South African Police Service (Saps).

The long-awaited first quarter statistics have been delayed since the end of August, with recent threats from the Democratic Alliance (DA) to release them if Acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia does not do so by November 28.

Last week, the DA said it expected to receive the delayed first quarter crime statistics through its pending Promotion of Access to Information Act (PAIA) request, which it submitted to compel the Saps and Cachalia to release the delayed first quarter crime statistics.

ActionSA had also accused the police of a lack of transparency and accountability.

ActionSA Member of Parliament Dereleen James had claimed the crime statistics delay was taking place during “deepening turmoil within the Police Ministry, as well as uncertainty over the Acting Minister’s authority, a leadership vacuum at Saps, and ongoing investigations by an ad hoc committee into governance failures within the Ministry”.

Cachalia, Deputy Minister of Police Dr Polly Boshielo and National Commissioner of Police General Fannie Masemola will present the quarterly crime statistics for the period between April 2025 and June 2025; and July 2025 and September 2025.
