5 August 2021 – The Limpopo Division of the High Court will hear Rosina Komape and Others v. Minister of Basic Education and Others case of 2015 in Polokwane on Friday, 6 August 2021.

This is the continuation of a case heard in the High Court in April 2018 in which Judge Muller ordered that the Limpopo Department of Education (LDOE) and Department of Basic Education (DBE) to develop a plan to eradicate pit toilets at Limpopo schools. We are returning to court because we believe the plan provided by government is unconstitutional and unreasonable, as education authorities have said that pit toilets in Limpopo will only become a thing of the past in 2030.

SECTION27 will demonstrate the painfully slow progress to eradicate pit toilets through a photographic installation outside the Polokwane High Court: 36 Biccard St, Polokwane Central, Polokwane, Limpopo (https://goo.gl/maps/Nt48bCxEHukYtbAm8).

SECTION27 will be joined by partners from Equal Education, who have been admitted as an amicus curiae (friend of the court) to call for a better plan for the eradication of unsafe sanitation infrastructure at schools in Limpopo.

SECTION27 staff will be at the Polokwane High Court and available for comment on this important case to fight for safe, dignified sanitation infrastructure.
