In recent months, Letsemeng Local Municipality's officials have assumed unchecked authority, making decisions independently without the council's endorsement.

In June, a contractor accessed a Petrusburg farm and extracted gravel for a paving project, circumventing the council's resolution and authorisation. In August, the Oppermansgronde community rallied against the unauthorised commercial use of their community hall, which traditionally serves various functions such as meetings and outreach programs. This was done without community consent and without council approval. In Jacobsdal, community uproar ensued as a businessman acquired the sports facility gate and closed off the access road without the council's sanction.

These issues merely scratch the surface of Letsemeng municipality's woes. The ANC-led administration is grappling with political instability and ineffective leadership.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) has actively sought answers by addressing letters to the community director and MM. Regrettably, responses are yet to materialize. The lack of response from the community director and MM has only further fuelled the frustration and dissatisfaction among the residents. The DA remains committed to holding the ANC-led administration accountable for their actions and will continue to advocate for transparency and effective governance in Letsemeng municipality.

We strongly encourage the community to unite and empower themselves by rallying behind the DA, aiming to dislodge the ANC from power. Let's replace it with a party that will staunchly champion and safeguard citizens' rights, as enshrined in the Constitution.

Issued by Thabo Nthapo - DA Councillor Letsemeng Local Municipality
