Fluxmans is pleased to announce the appointment of Peter van Niekerk, one of South Africa’s leading litigation and dispute resolution attorneys, as an Executive Consultant to the firm. Peter brings over 43 years of extensive and varied legal experience, further strengthening the firms award-winning dispute resolution and litigation practices.
Widely respected as a commercial litigator and an accredited mediator in both commercial and family law disputes, Peter has a distinguished track record. His expertise is underscored by his service in various roles, including as a Judge and Assessor in the High Court and as a Commissioner of the Small Claims Court, a position he has held since its inception.
Peter has been intricately involved in significant mediations, both as a mediator and as counsel representing parties.
“Peter’s contributions to the legal field have been recognised both locally and globally and it is a great privilege having him join us”, shared Ira Epstein, Joint CEO of Fluxmans. “Amongst his other areas of expertise, he is also well-regarded for his work as an accredited mediator and is on the mediation panels of the Arbitration Foundation of South Africa (AFSA) and Conflict Dynamics and also sits on AFSA’s Mediation Committee.”
Prior to joining Fluxmans, Peter held the position of Managing Partner for a decade at a global law firm, where he also served as the head of the Litigation and Dispute Resolution Department.
Beyond his legal achievements, Peter demonstrates a strong commitment to social responsibility. He served as a director of the Teddy Bear Clinic for Abused Children for over 20 years and is currently a director of Woman and Men Against Child Abuse. His previous board experience includes serving on the board of directors of Alexander Forbes, where he collaborated with prominent figures such as President Cyril Ramaphosa.
Peter’s exceptional contributions to the legal field have garnered significant recognition. He was voted the Best Lawyer in Arbitration and Litigation by Business Day's Business Law and Tax Review. Furthermore, Chambers and Partners ranks him in the top 5% of lawyers globally, and Business Today has recognised him as one of the top 10 influential Dispute Resolution Lawyers in South Africa. In 2018, Peter’s outstanding legal services were acknowledged through a nomination and recognition in the Acritas Stars Survey.
