Firstly, the IFP applauds Public Protector, Advocate Ms. Busisiwe Mkhwebane for having released the widely-awaited report on the Vrede Dairy Farm in the Free State which allegedly was used to enrich those for whom the project was not intended.

Secondly, we wish to urge Free State Premier Mr. Ace Magashule to act very swiftly to implement the remedial action contained in Public Protector’s report released today.

According to news 24, Advocate Mkhwebane’s report found that there were cases of procurement irregularities and gross negligence and maladministration in the manner the whole dairy farm saga was conducted. It then called on Premier Magashule to “initiate and institute disciplinary action against all implicated officials involved in the Vrede dairy project.”

It is in the interest of Premier Magashule to act swiftly on this report because as the newly-elected leadership of the ANC they have committed themselves to renewal and acting against all forms of corruption and wrong-doing.

This report presents the ANC leadership with an opportunity to “walk the talk.” Indeed South Africa deserves a new beginning that breaks completely with the recent past of nonchalant contempt for law, order and all decency.
