The Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) national executive council’s (NEC’s) meeting over the weekend resolved that the mayoral vacancies which exist in IFP-led municipalities be filled.
IFP national spokesperson Mkhuleko Hlengwa said the party reaffirmed its commitment to “good governance and effective municipal management”, calling on the newly appointed leaders to fulfil their duties and serve the needs of the people with “dedication, integrity, and accountability”.
“As we continue to lead in various municipalities, the IFP’s 2021 13-Point Plan Manifesto remains our guiding framework for service delivery, ensuring that we prioritise the well-being of our communities. We call on all stakeholders, including municipal officials and residents, to support these leaders in their efforts to build better and more sustainable local governments,” he said.
In KwaZulu-Natal, Umzinyathi district municipality acting mayor Thembisile Mchunu will assume the position of mayor.
Mchunu has been acting in the position after Petros Ngubane was recalled earlier this month.
Nothile Zungu will be the new deputy mayor.
The party has also filled mayoral positions in the Nkandla local municipality and AmaJuba district municipality.
Nkandla local municipality acting mayor Nonhlanhla Nzuza will assume the position of mayor and Nokuthula Magubane is the new deputy mayor.
AmaJuba district municipality acting mayor Thembelihle Mthembu is the new mayor, while Isaac Sithole is the deputy mayor.
