The Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) is calling for a comprehensive investigation into the horrific accident on the N1 outside Louis Trichardt in Limpopo, which has tragically claimed the lives of more than 40 people.

Among the deceased are seven children, following the crash of a bus travelling from Gqeberha and carrying Malawian and Zimbabwean nationals. The vehicle reportedly lost control, veered off the road, and rolled down an embankment before landing on its roof.

The IFP urges law enforcement authorities to determine whether the bus was roadworthy, safe, and compliant with all traffic and transport regulations.

The Party remains deeply concerned about the recurring nature of fatal road accidents in South Africa and calls for accountability at all levels. Responsibility must not rest solely with the drivers — vehicle owners and operators must also be held liable where negligence or non-compliance is found.

“These are not mere accidents — they are preventable tragedies that expose systemic failures in transport safety and enforcement,” said IFP Chief Whip in the National Assembly- Hon Nhlanhla Hadebe

The IFP extends its heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives and wishes a speedy recovery to all who sustained injuries.

Issued by IFP Chief Whip in the National Assembly Nhlanhla Hadebe
