The Department of Home Affairs (DHA) has, from Monday, extended its operating hours on weekdays, to assist learners applying for and collecting their identification documents (IDs) during the school holidays.
The department’s offices have extended weekday closing time from 16:00 to 18:00, until July 21.
Dedicated counters have also been allocated for collections in large offices that process Smart ID Cards and passports.
Minister of Home Affairs, Dr Leon Schreiber urged all clients who have applied for their IDs and who have been waiting for three weeks or more, to collect these critical documents.
DHA spokesperson Siya Qoza said clients had an option to book applications or collection appointments before visiting offices, using the Branch Appointment Booking System.
The department also allows clients who may not have an opportunity to book appointments to visit as walk-ins.
