“A capable state requires capable leaders”- Ramaphosa

At a grandeur scale, much is happening globally in the world of politics. For South Africa, it is not too late to get on course by leaning on sound leadership.  Leaders from various spheres of SA Government and SOE’s will be addressing the 3rd Annual Women and Leadership in Government and State-Owned Enterprises, Indaba Hotel, Fourways.

“Government & SOE’s are the backbone of any nation and mistrust in them to govern, can collapse a nation, but if you look deeper, South Africa’s elected leadership is not all doom and gloom”, says Sudhira Sewsunker, owner of Pinpoint Stewards.  “We do have leaders who go beyond meeting their basic mandate in serving the best interest of the people. This is proven by spotlighting women leaders who hold themselves accountable and are stepping into key leadership spaces.“

Although the SA cabinet achieved gender parity in 2019, female representation decreased to 43,8% in 2024. At the local government level, decision-making positions such as mayors and municipal councillors remain male-dominated. In 2022, only 32,0% of mayoral positions were held by women, compared to 68,0% by men. The Eastern Cape (54,0%), North West (50,0%), and Free State (48,0%) have the highest representation of female mayors. Municipal councillor positions are also male-dominated, with women occupying just 37,7% of these roles. The Free State and KwaZulu-Natal report the lowest representation of female councillors, at 32,9% and 33,1% respectively.

Phenomenal women in all tiers of government are working fervently and tirelessly to ensure the wheels of the public sector keep turning. Both women and men play a huge role in ensuring public servants unite, while serving the country, without favour to their own political party but overall progress of the country.

Ten public servants have been earmarked to present at the 2-day leadership conference and include speakers:

  • HON. BERNICE SWARTS, Deputy Minister FORESTRY, FISHERIES AND THE ENVIRONMENT (RSA)
