Barely a month after Tropical Cyclone Idai's arrival, Tropical Cyclone Kenneth made landfall on Mozambique on 25 April 2019. In response, Njeri Kabeberi, Executive Director of Greenpeace Africa, has said:

"Greenpeace Africa expresses solidarity with those affected by Tropical Cyclone Kenneth, and we urge our supporters to mobilise for those who have lost their livelihood during the storm. We continue to stand in solidarity with the millions across Africa who are left vulnerable to extreme weather events.

"It is time to accept as fact that climate change will only increase the severity of extreme weather events; they present themselves to us as symptoms of the existential threat of climate change. We must hold accountable the heavy polluters and emitters, who continue to go unchecked.  They are contributing to the warming of the oceans that allows tropical cyclones such as Idai and Kenneth to gain devastating power.

"This is yet another wake up call, and we urge our leaders in Africa to act with urgency to tackle the threats of climate change and to ensure climate justice. Tens of thousands of people have been forced to evacuate in Mozambique. On the island of Comoros, three people lost their lives in Kenneth's approach. In South Africa, 70 more lives have been lost to severe flooding in KwaZulu Natal. One life lost to climate change is one life too many."
