The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Western Cape reminds all parents and guardians that the closing date for late applications for the 2026 school admissions is Friday, 16 May 2025. In other words, only two days remain to secure a school placement for your child in the Western Cape for the 2026 academic year.
Applications can be completed online, and where that is not possible, in-person.
For in-person admission application assistance, the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) has an Admissions Walk-in Centre located at 1 North Wharf Square, 2 Lower Loop Street, Foreshore, Cape Town, 8001. The centre operates from 07:30 to 16:00. In addition, parents or guardians can visit a nearby school or a district office for in-person assistance.
Alternatively, online applications can be completed using the following link: https://admissionswesterncape.datafree.co/admissions/admission.sm_admissions_tracking.homepage.
The following documents are required:
* Identification document – (Birth certificate, passport, or relevant permits)
* Immunisation card or Road to Health chart (For Grade R and 1 learner)
* Latest official academic school report
* Proof of residence (Rates accounts, lease agreement, or an affidavit)
If any of the required documents are missing, parents or guardians should not be discouraged, they can submit a sworn police affidavit as a temporary substitute.
Leon van Wyk, MPP said, “Parents and guardians who have not yet applied must take advantage of this final opportunity to secure a place for their child at a school in the Western Cape. However, they are encouraged to first check the admissions policy of the schools they are applying to. This can help prevent disappointment, as submitting an application does not guarantee placement.”
After submitting a late application, parents or guardians are advised to print and keep a copy of the online application for their own records. Importantly, the outcomes of the Grades R, 1 and 8 applications will be displayed on the WCED admissions site on 30 May 2025.
The DA in the Western Cape urges all parents and guardians not to miss this final opportunity to apply. Ensuring your child is placed in a school on time helps the WCED plan more effectively for the academic year ahead. Applying for admission is not just a formality, it is an essential step in securing a child’s future.
