Former Solidarity Fund CEO Tandi Nzimande is the new Gender-based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) Response Fund CEO, taking over from Zanele Ngwepe, who has been interim CEO.
President Cyril Ramaphosa launched the Fund in February 2021, together with the International Women’s Forum of South Africa and social partners.
The board said Nzimande’s appointment marked a new chapter at the Fund following the departure of its CEO Sazini Mojapelo, who concluded her tenure in December to pursue another career opportunity.
“Tandi joins the team at the GBVF Response Fund from the Solidarity Fund, where she was appointed as CEO in October 2020, just as the realisation dawned that Covid-19 would be with us for a longer time than many had expected,” the board said.
Nzimande began her career as a chartered accountant. She has also served as CFO at a women’s empowerment company and a business model research and development firm.
She has served on the boards of various listed and unlisted entities, non-profit organisations and foundations.
“We are confident that, under Tandi’s expert guidance, we are poised to strengthen the Fund’s role as a driving force in the fight against GBVF, ensuring meaningful impact across society. Her leadership will be critical in safeguarding our progress and reimagining our future,” said Fund board chairperson Faith Khanyile.
