During the State of the Nation Address (SONA), President Cyril Ramaphosa promised that he will hold people accountable for their failure to provide water to communities. Instead of holding the eThekwini City leadership accountable for their failure to provide water to communities, he celebrated their failure by unveiling the R22m statues in Durban today.

60% of the water in Durban is wasted and communities go without water for weeks on end. This is because of the failure of the eThekwini Municipality to repair the infrastructure.
We have a sewer crisis in our city. Sewer flows into our oceans and the tourists that used to flock Durban have disappeared.

Durban has the highest number of informal settlements with thousands of families desperate for dignity.
These are the priorities that we are fighting for, yet the President sees it fit to celebrate the waste with public funds.

Today the DA Caucus in eThekwini protested at the unveiling to raise our voice at the failures of our government.

We call on the people of this City to help us to get Durban/eThekwini working again.
