The DA in Gauteng is outraged that services are disrupted at the Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg (CMJH) and Rahima Moosa hospitals after Egoli Gas cut them off because the Gauteng Health Department owes them R15 million.

This is yet another example of the department's abysmal mismanagement as it faces a deficit of more than R7.3 billion in the financial year that ends on 31 March.

Gas is needed at the hospitals to assist with hot water for patients, cooking on gas stoves, and the sterilisation of instruments.

At CMJH, this means patients are now being fed cereal instead of porridge.

In December last year, CMJH’s power was briefly cut off because City Power had not been paid.

More unpaid companies are cutting off suppliers. hurting patients in our hospitals. Premier Panyaza Lesufi continues making false promises about buying private hospitals and cutting long waiting times, while public healthcare crumbles.

The DA Gauteng will continue to press for a total change in the Gauteng Health top management to ensure the budget is properly spent so that patients receive quality care.
