The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in the Western Cape have joined the Astron Energy contract workers in their fight to access their Temporary Employer/Employee Relief Scheme (TERS) allowance and Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) money.

A group of approximately 60 contract workers joined members of the Western Cape EFF to march peacefully to the offices of the Department of Labour in Long Street, Cape Town, where they handed over a memorandum of demands. The contract workers claim they have been without money for more than six months.

The Economic Freedom Fighters have promised mass action against South African companies should they not pay their employees their UIF money. The party has encouraged workers to contact them should they not be paid out. The party will then pay the company a “special visit”.
