The Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) has closed two sluice gates at the Vaal dam, reducing water outflow.
Over the past week, the department opened eight sluice gates at the dam, increasing outflow to 1 097 mᵌ/s, to manage water outflows amid heavy rainfall in Gauteng and Mpumalanga.
By Saturday, with two sluice gates now closed, outflows from the Vaal dam were reduced to 650 mᵌ/s.
The water outflows at Bloemhof dam, which were also increased in the past week, remain at 1 000 mᵌ/s.
The water levels of the Vaal dam decreased from 105.67% to 102.74% by Saturday, while the water levels of the Bloemhof dam were at 100.75%.
The DWS said it would continuously conduct its flood routine analysis to actively monitor the inflow water levels at both dams.
