Deputy Minister Andries Nel will visit the Youth Centre in Bavianspoort Correctional Centre as part of Government Imbizo programme. The Deputy Minister will interact with offenders who are currently studying at the centre.
Emthonjeni Youth Centre achieved a 100% matric pass rate in the 2016 academic year, making it possible for Correctional Services to achieve an overall matric pass rate of 70.1%.  It is important for offenders to remain focused amid their circumstances so that they can reach their full potential and achieve the best results possible.

This Imbizo programme will be on Education which is the number one priority for the South African government.

The Deputy Minister will engage the offenders at the Bavianspoort Correctional Centre encouraging them to take this opportunity to study seriously. Formal schooling assists offenders to invest their time and energy on educational opportunities which will deliver better chances to escape unemployment and poverty which leads to a life of criminality.

Through the Imbizo on Education, government will be emphasising the importance of education for the development of our country.

Media is invited to attend as follows:
Date:    25 February 2017
