Ramaphosa guilty of 'Guptaphobia', says MP
Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa did little yesterday to dispel Agang MP Andries Tlouamma’s claim that he suffers from “Guptaphobia”.
Not once did he mention the name Gupta - the notorious family believed to be behind a massive State capture project - while answering questions in the National Assembly.
Ramaphosa said he only knew what he had read, such as the Public Protector’s State of Capture report and articles by investigative reporters, based on hundreds of e-mails leaked from the Guptas.
Zimbabweans 'apologise' to SA over Grace Mugabe
A group of prominent Zimbabwean political activists yesterday apologised to South Africans following the recent assault of a 20 year old model at a Sandton hotel by President Robert Mugabe’s wife Grace.
This came at a time when the Zimbabwean First Lady was yet to make any public pronouncements regarding the issue for allegedly assaulting Gabriella Engels with an extension cord and severely injured her after she found her in the company of one of her two sons living and learning in South Africa, Bellarmine Chatunga.
Polls close for Angolans electing first new leader in 38 years
Angolans who voted in a parliamentary election yesterday expected to usher in the ruling party's defence minister as the first new leader for 38 years.
Joao Lourenco, who has pledged to boost growth and fight corruption, would inherit an economy mired in recession as gaping inequality, soaring inflation and high unemployment squeeze poor Angolans who have benefited little from a decades-long oil boom.
The People's Movement for the Liberation of Angola, which has ruled Angola since independence from Portugal in 1975, is expected to remain in power but with a reduced majority.
