Gauteng High Court says insolvency notice that cleared Tshwane mayor is fake

The chief registrar of the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria says Tshwane Mayor Murunwa Makwarela’s insolvency rehabilitation certificate is fake.

Tumelo Ledwaba, the chief registrar of the Gauteng High Court, wrote to the office of the Chief Justice today saying the certificate presented by Makwarela, clearing him of his insolvency, was never issued by the court.

Ledwaba added that no rehabilitation certificate was ever issued for Makwarela or his wife. Makwarela used the fake certificate to reverse his removal as Tshwane mayor.

Ramaphosa delays appointment of SABC board

President Cyril Ramaphosa has written to National Assembly Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula requesting more information on the candidates for South African Broadcasting Corporation board members.

According to the law, Parliament puts together a list of names of candidates which Ramaphosa has a final say on.

In a letter to Mapisa-Nqakua, Ramaphosa said there is confusion on the so-called reserve pool of names which ought not to be considered and asked for the accurate number of names to be submitted.

At the heart of the SABC's problem has been Ramaphosa's delay in appointing the SABC board.

Parliament guns for Mosebenzi Zwane

Six years ago, former mineral resources minister Mosebenzi Zwane was a high-flyer in former president Jacob Zuma's inner circle, and a chief lieutenant of the infamous Gupta family.

These days, Zwane finds himself out in the cold and in the political wilderness, with Parliament breathing down his neck over his corrupt dealings with the Guptas.

Parliament's Joint Committee on Ethics and Members' Interests has recommended several sanctions against Zwane including his suspension from his seat in parliamentary debates for one parliamentary term.

This penalty is due to his participation in the sale of Optimum Coal Mine to Tegeta, a Gupta-owned firm.
