ANC says there is no outperformance of the party in GNU

The African National Congress today rejected a news report which claimed that senior ANC members have complained that Democratic Alliance ministers in the Government of National Unity are making the ANC “look bad” as DA Ministers supposedly outperform them.

The ANC said the news report is completely without basis in fact nor is it even a narrative for the ANC national working committee meeting.

The report stated that several DA ministers, as well as Sport, Arts and Culture Minister Gayton McKenzie of the Patriotic Alliance, have been allegedly mopping the floor with the ANC, making its ministers appear "incompetent”.

It further claimed that concerns were raised at a recent ANC NWC meeting in which party leaders heard some Ministers were fearful of engaging with the media.

The ANC explained that there was no such discussion about anybody outperforming the ANC in government.

SAHRC decries increased incidents of racism, updates on EFF Cllr matter

The South African Human Rights Commission said it is urgently assessing Economic Freedom Fighters councillor Obakeng Ramabodu’s matter in line with its complaints handling procedure.

The Democratic Alliance in Tshwane filed a case against Ramabodu, accusing him of hate speech and racism, following a council meeting last week, in which Ramabodu uttered allegedly racist comments.

Ramabodu has since apologised unconditionally.

The commission also noted with serious concern allegations of racism in Gauteng and the Western Cape, saying it is disturbing that these incidences continue to occur thirty years into democracy.

It said it is more distressing to see that three of these incidents are alleged to have taken place in schools.

And, ActionSA seeks legal advice to rescind Andile Gobinca’s appointment in CoJ

ActionSA has said it will seek legal advice with the aim of rescinding Andile Gobinca’s appointment as Secretary to the City of Johannesburg metropolitan municipality.

The party rejected Gobinca’s appointment, citing that he lacked necessary qualifications for the position.

ActionSA CoJ caucus leader Nobuhle Mthembu said her party believed in the professionalisation of the public sector and insisted that appointments should be based on merit, competence and a commitment to ethical service.

She said ActionSA could not participate in setting a precedent where “unquestionably fit” candidates were appointed, and urged those responsible for candidate selection to be objective and fair during the shortlisting process.

She pointed out that the Council also overlooked Mohammed Ismail Khan for the position of Integrity Commissioner, despite his qualifications.
