Forum 4 Service Delivery joins ActionSA
ActionSA announced that will be collaborating with the Forum 4 Service Delivery party, amending its interim constitution to establish the position of an ActionSA Deputy President, which F4SD President Dr Mbahare Kekana will take up.
ActionSA President Herman Mashaba pointed out that shortly after his party’s refusal to join the Government of National Unity, and the party’s exit from the Multi-Party Charter, Kekana approached him to discuss the possibility of the two parties coming together.
Founded in 2015, the F4SD cut its political teeth in the 2016 local government elections where it won several municipal seats.
National Chairperson Michael Beaumont noted the mutual agreement between the parties, clarifying that the two organisations will campaign under the banner and identity of ActionSA.
Members of the F4SD will be encouraged to join ActionSA.
Presidential Economic Advisory Council discusses economic policy priorities during SA’s G20 Presidency
As South Africa heads up the G20 Presidency this year, the Presidential Economic Advisory Council of South Africa’s seventh administration is looking at the country’s role in advancing the global economic policy agenda and proposes advancing the priorities already set out by President Cyril Ramaphosa.
South Africa assumed the G20 Presidency in December and will hold it until November 30, 2025, in which time it will focus on Ramaphosa’s priorities of mobilising finance to support a just energy transition, addressing the unsustainable debt burden on developing countries, strengthening disaster resilience and response, and harnessing critical minerals for inclusive growth and sustainable development.
The first meeting of the Presidential Economic Advisory Council to discuss proposals to advance these priorities was held on Tuesday and chaired by Ramaphosa, building on the progress made on international taxation, reform of multilateral development banks, and climate finance.
And, Death toll from South African mine siege rises to 78
South African rescuers have so far pulled 78 bodies and rescued 166 people from the Stilfontein gold mine over three days of operations, police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe told reporters at the scene today.
Police had blocked food and water supplies since August until a court ruling in December that volunteers could send down essential aid for the miners, known locally as "zama zamas".
All survivors rescued so far were immediately arrested and charged with criminal offences including illegal immigration, trespass and illegal mining, police said.
