Mbalula announces ANC KZN’s new top 6
Following a dismal showing at the polls in the last general election the African National Congress has reconfigured its Provincial Task Team in KwaZulu-Natal with the hope that the new leadership will focus on inspiring hope, addressing electoral setbacks, and driving transformation and development in line with the party’s renewal agenda.
Following the electoral losses suffered by the ANC in Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal during last year’s general elections, the party called for leadership in those provinces to be reconstituted, in terms of the framework of its constitution.
The newly reconfigured ANC KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Task Team is made up of Provincial Convenor:Jeff Radebe; 1st Deputy Provincial Convenor Weziwe Thusi; 2nd Deputy Provincial Convenor Siboniso Duma; Provincial Coordinator Mike Mabuyakhulu; Provincial Deputy Coordinator Nomusa Dube-Ncube; and Provincial Fundraiser Nomagugu Simelane.
Injured SANDF soldiers repatriated from DRC
The South African National Defence Force said a group of critically injured soldiers has been repatriated from Goma in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo to receive medical care in South Africa.
Soldiers were deployed as part of the Southern African Development Community Mission in the DRC.
So far, 14 soldiers have lost their lives in the conflict, this amid concerns regarding the serviceability of the SANDF’s Prime Mission Equipment and mission deployment readiness.
There have been calls for President Cyril Ramaphosa to recall soldiers from the mission.
Meanwhile, the SANDF said more wounded soldiers will arrive in South Africa this week.
And, Reserve Bank governor says trade and tax policies pose inflation risks
Global trade tensions and a potential value-added tax hike in South Africa could derail two years of slowing inflation, the country's central bank governor said.
Speaking on the sidelines of a meeting of G20 finance officials in Cape Town, Lesetja Kganyago said uncertain trade conditions and retaliatory tariffs could impact South Africa by tightening global financing conditions and affecting its exports.
South Africa's G20 presidency has been overshadowed by the prospect of a global trade war since US President Donald Trump's return to the White House last month.
Japan's finance minister has pulled out of this week's G20 finance meeting to focus on trying to pass next year's budget, while US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is staying away amid a spat between Trump's administration and South Africa.
